The record of Lionel Messi’s fastest ever career goal was set in the friendly match between Argentina and Australia in Beijing
Lionel Messi scored his fastest career goal as Argentina defeated Australia 2-0 in a friendly in Beijing on Thursday.
Argentina took the lead thanks to a 79-second strike from the Barcelona star, and German Pezzella added a second goal in the second half to secure the victory.
In his 162nd appearance for Argentina, Messi scored his 82nd goal, making it his 82nd overall. It was also the quickest goal an Argentinean player had ever scored in a competitive game. Argentina’s first triumph since taking home the World Cup in December gave them encouragement going into their upcoming Copa America campaign.
Lionel Messi scores fastest career goal
Messi made a fantastic individual effort to score. His low shot into the bottom corner gave Australian Custodian Mat Ryan no chance as he gathered the ball on the edge of the area. Argentina put on a strong performance, which was welcomed by an enormous cheer from the spectators at the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing.
Argentina cruise to victory
There were numerous opportunities for Argentina to increase their lead during the game. They couldn’t increase their total until the second half, though.
In the 68th minute, Pezzella headed in a cross from Angel Di Maria to score the second goal. Argentina won with ease after scoring a goal that was sufficient to secure the victory.
Messi impresses in first match since World Cup win
Argentina’s Messi was in great shape and posed a continuous threat to the Australian defence. He gave his teammates a lot of opportunities, and it was unfortunate that he didn’t add more goals.
Argentina will benefit greatly from Messi’s performance in the buildup to their Copa America campaign. When the competition begins in June, Argentina will be among the favorites to win.
